Pick the size of the roll-up. Eighty-five by two hundred is the everyday one, but check what your cassette actually takes before you design: the banner has to fit the hardware, not the other way round.

Now the part people forget. The bottom of the banner disappears into the cassette, roughly ten centimetres, and it is not visible when the thing is standing. Put your logo down there and it is rolled up inside the base. The tool marks that strip so you keep it empty.

Then eye level. A roll-up is looked at standing up, from a metre or two away, so what matters sits between about one metre twenty and one metre eighty off the floor. Below knee height nobody reads anything, and the very top is above most people's line of sight. Put the message in that band and the rest is decoration.

Finally the resolution. A roll-up is not a business card: it is looked at from a distance, so a hundred to a hundred and fifty dots per inch at final size is plenty. Blowing a small photo up to three hundred does not add detail, it only makes the file heavy. The tool says whether what you have loaded is big enough at the size you chose.
