About this tool
Power and wiring for illuminated signs: cable size, voltage drop and how many drivers
How it works
1
Open the tool. There is nothing to install, and it keeps working without internet.
2
Enter the system voltage, the watts per metre and the length. Watch what happens if you switch from 24 to 12 volts: the same sign then draws twice the current and tolerates half the drop, so it needs four times the copper.
3
Enter how far the driver sits from the sign and what conductor you plan to use. The graph shows the voltage falling: a straight line along the cable, a curve along the strip. If the far end drops below the red line, the last letters burn visibly dimmer.
4
Feeding from both ends helps, but not equally everywhere: the cable drop halves and the strip drop goes to a quarter. That is why you do it for the strip, not for the cable. A second wire is usually cheaper than thicker copper over the whole run.
5
Watch the quality message. Green means sharp enough, red means the photo is too small.
6
Done, or something went wrong? Open the dashboard and start over with a clean sheet.
Reviews will be available soon.
