About this tool

Labels on a sheet or a roll. Draws all eight winding directions, works out the roll diameter, and builds a real EAN-13 that respects the quiet zone.

How it works

1
Choose the shape of the label: rectangle, rounded corners, oval or circle. A rounded corner is not decoration, it is what stops a label lifting: a sharp corner catches on everything and starts peeling from there.
2
Set the size in millimetres and check the bleed. The tool puts three millimetres of bleed outside the shape and keeps three millimetres safe inside it, so anything important stays at least six millimetres away from the cut. A cutting machine drifts by a fraction of a millimetre, and without that margin your text ends up on the edge.
3
Printing on sheets? Then the tool lays the labels out on the sheet and works out how many fit. Mind the gap between them: too tight and the knife takes a bite out of the neighbour; the little strip that is left over is waste you pay for either way.
4
Printing on a roll? Then the roll width and the gap between labels decide everything. Give the machine a run-in and a run-out at the start and the end of the roll; the first and last labels of a run are the ones that come out crooked.
5
Need a barcode? An EAN-13 is not a picture you can scale to taste. The bars have a fixed proportion, the thirteenth digit is a check digit worked out from the other twelve, and the light margins left and right are part of the code. Print it too small or crop those margins and the scanner simply stays silent. The tool works out the check digit and keeps the quiet zones free.

The price works itself out while you design. You can change the rates yourself.
